My 2021 intention for World Watercolor Month has been letting go, being present, and enjoying the journey.
If the last year has taught me anything, it is to lean into change and see where it leads.
In not planning my subjects, the prompts led me to three distinct themes:

Closer to Home • Closer to Nature • Closer to Self

We are in a difficult season of life right now. After two summers of canceled vacations, illness, and uncertainty, life looks a lot different than we were used to before the pandemic.

Rather than the usual summer traveling, I have been slowing down to appreciate the space around me. Having purchased our new house in November 2020, this summer has been filled with explorations with my son at a nearby lake, introspection during quiet morning walks, and tending to our first garden.

While I miss traveling beyond our small Wisconsin town, I am focusing on the quiet discoveries to be found closer to home, closer to nature, and closer to self.

CLOSER TO HOME

“The artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or a few feet away. It is always on his doorstep.”

— Paul Strand

CLOSER TO NATURE

“Nature is not simply a picturesque subject; it is wild, even uncomfortable, but also has the potential to rejuvenate and fill our senses with wonder and delight.”
- Ann Blockley
