SHADES OF YOU, SHADES OF ME
Multicultural maternal mental health conference gone virtual
Having attended the Shades of You, Shades of Me (SOYSOM)โs flagship Multicultural Maternal Mental Health Conference in 2019, I was thrilled when they invited me to reimagine their logo ahead of the 2020 conference.
I turned to watercolorโs soft, transparent nature to evoke the raw emotionality and messiness of early motherhood to this project. The logo was so well received that I was asked to join their team as Senior Designer to scale SOYSOMโs marketing ahead of the conference.
But, when the need to pivot to a hybrid event arose, we found inventive ways to bring the conference to attendees without loosing the connections and interactions that made the first event such a success.
SOCIAL MEDIA
MARKETING
Clarifying the organizationโs messaging and mission internally made rolling out SOYSOMโs updated branding such an organic process.
While everyone was disappointed about the inability to share physical space together, the unexpectedly virtual conference became an opportunity to demonstrate shared values and care for one anotherโs wellbeing during a difficult time.
DESIGN ASSETS
Ahead of promoting the conference online, those who attended the 2019 event received save the date postcards to encourage them to register for the virtual conference.
CREATING AN
EXPERIENCE
To maintain the unique sense of connectedness that made the in-person conference so successful, attendees received event packages that made the conference feel more like a shared experience.
SET DESIGN
Collaborating with an on-site designer, we transformed a large stage into an intimate space for meaningful discussions on systemic racism, motherhood, and mental health. This was accomplished with minimal furniture in lush fabrics and projections of SOYSOMโs logo, complimentary watercolor elements, and large screens to seamlessly accommodate both in-person and virtual faculty members.
