Six Weeks
0.04 oz has never weighed so much.
No matter the
circumstances, this
blurry, black and
white photo will
change your life in a
multitude of ways.
I began weaving this piece months before Texas passed Senate Bill 8โฆ
โฆbut by the time I was finished, Six Weeks held a much more complicated meaning.
Materials
Six Weeks is a highly-textured, handwoven tapestry of monochromatic natural and synthetic fibers. This piece features Tahitian pearl, mother of pearl, striped agate, and glass beads with a gold foil wrapped, Brazilian agate focal point on a 16 inch diameter brass ring.
Weaving
Women artists have a long history of working in textile and fiber arts, myself included. My grandmother taught me to sew as a child. I took up cross stitch and crocheting in college as a way to connect with other women on campus at stitch โn bitch events held at the Womenโs Center.
I began weaving when my son was young and creative time was relinquished to the minutes between feedings and diaper changes.
Six years after six weeks.
