I have some exciting news to share: I have been invited to participate in the Parallel Artists-Mother Show at The Arts Mill next year! I am honored to be one of the twenty creative women who will be sharing their maternal journey at this exhibit.

While I have worked with several mediums, I began working with watercolor shortly after Oliver was born and found myself challenged, humbled, impatient, and in love with both. Just as a child’s earliest nurturing and environment shapes who they will become, every steps of the watercolor process impacts the final painting. I can build upon these layers and rewet dried paint, but there is little that can be hidden when working with this medium – the serendipitous blooms, the mistakes, and the graphite under-sketching are all visible through thin, transparent layers of color. It is all part of the beauty and character of the final piece. While I am able to guide my son and my pigments, ultimately, both will take on their own characters, growing beyond anything I could have ever planned. As a mother and an artist, I am fortunate to be able to pour myself into these creative endeavors.

As I learn more about the exhibit, I will share here. I can’t wait to start working on some new pieces for this show!
